BEFORE THE FIRST VISIT

Please discuss the positive aspects of dentistry with your child. You can explain that Dr. Lantzy will count and take pictures of his/her teeth. Please do not tell your child that the "dentist will not hurt" as this may never have entered his/her mind. Instead, you may wish to assure your child that we will be gentle and friendly. Please avoid using the words needle, shot, pull, or any other words suggesting unpleasantness. Expect your child to react well and enjoy their visits to our office and chances are he/she will do exactly that! Finally, it is our policy to take X-rays every six months. It is the patient's responsibility to know what their insurance plan will cover in regards to the frequency of X-rays.

THE FIRST VISIT

The dentist will review with you the health history of your child. We invite you to accompany your child into the treatment area. Dr. Lantzy will perform a head and neck examination, evaluate the health of the teeth and gums, evaluate your child's bite, and then he will discuss the findings and treatment recommendations with you. Your child's teeth will be cleaned and fluoride will be applied, if needed. Any additional services will be scheduled for a later visit.

EMERGENCY SERVICES

In case of a dental emergency we are always available to help. If your child has an accident, please call our office as soon as possible. We will see your child immediately if necessary. If it is an after-hours emergency, call 817-874-0379 and instructions will be given on how to reach the dentist on call.

PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY

A pediatric dentist is the pediatrician of dentistry. Children at different ages need different approaches in dealing with their behavior, guiding their growth and development, and helping them avoid future dental problems. Pediatric dentists are better qualified to meet those needs, because they are specialists dedicated to the oral health of children and the monitoring of their facial growth and development. Since pediatric dentists focus on caring for all children's dental needs, they provide the most up-to-date and thorough treatment for a wide variety of children's dental problems.

SPECIALIZED SERVICES RENDERED
Preventive Services

Infant Oral Health Care: We follow the recommendations of The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry that a child's first visit to the dentist should occur by 12 months of age. This visit will enable Dr. Lantzy to evaluate your child and introduce you to proper oral hygiene. Diet, fluoride, finger and pacifier habits and tooth eruption will be discussed to ensure optimal dental health. By starting early, we can enable your child to enjoy the lifelong benefits of a healthy mouth.
Recall Program: It is preventive denistry's foundation and in our practive is customized to the patient's needs. Often children with significant problems need to be seen on a more frequent basis for an examination, dental cleaning, and fluoride treatment.
Sealants: They protect your child's teeth from decay. They are made of white plastic and are painted on the grooves of the posterior teeth in one visit.
Mouthgards: They prevent dental injuries. A form-fitting mouthguard can be fabricated for your child in our office.
Interceptive Orthodontics: Early examination and treatment may help prevent or reduce the severity of a malocclusion or bad bite. Starting treatment or preventive care at the proper time, even when the baby teeth are present, can reduce the overall treatment time and result in a better outcome.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Tooth-colored fillings/bonding provide strength to the restored tooth and release small amounts of fluoride to prevent further decay. Similar in color and texture to natural teeth, the restorations are much less noticeable and much more attractive than other types of fillings, providing your child a confident smile.
Bleaching/tooth whitening is a safe and cost effective cosmetic treatment for many adolescents. Usually the best time to evaluate whether or not your child is a good candidate for bleaching is after completion of orthodontics, and all permanent teeth are present.
Sedation/Hospital Dentistry
Oral sedation/Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) are available for young children and children with anxiety who can not cope with traditional dental treatment. Dr. Lantzy has extensive training and experience in behavior management with both non-pharmacological and pharmacological techniques and exceeds the standard of care in his monitoring and emergency equipment. He is trained and certified in Pediatric Advanded Life Support and he is a certified sedation provider.
General Anesthesia: Dr. Lantzy has privileges at Cook's Hospital where he treats patients who need comprehensive oral rehabilitation. It is much easier for a young child or a child with a disability to tolerate extensive work under general anesthesia in one visit (go home the same day), rather than long hours or multiple visits in the dental chair. Every child should have the opportunity of the best dental care possible, regardless of the impairment.
